Western Australian Wine
|
The warmer climate of Western Australia lends itself to the production
of full bodied premium reds, especially cabernet sauvignon and also fortified
wines.
The new found wealth due to the mining boom of the 1980s and 1990s has
seen a great expansion of the Western Australian wine industry.
The creation of premium wines has been achieved with the use of quality
winemakers and also oak. Many of the Western Australian vineyards have
established international export agreements which should see the wine
industry expand to an even greater extent in the future.
The most well known wine region of Western Australia is Margaret River.
This area is famous for cabernet and to a lesser extent for semillon and
semillon-sauvignon blanc blends. The wines are spectacular and as a result
have international acclaim . Newer regions include Pemberton which is
to the west and Great Southern around Albany, Mt Barker and Frankland
River.
